We DIBELed\u00c2\u00a0all of our students on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of this past week. And second grade had a grade level planning time on Wednesday afternoon, so\u00c2\u00a0us ancillary folk covered their classes so they could meet. So I taught a whopping three of my classes this week and had subs cover them on the other days. I wanted to do a lesson on Dr. Martin Luther King since we celebrated his birthday on Monday. I needed a lesson that would translate well for my subs. We read <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">Martin&#8217;s Big Words<\/span>\u00c2\u00a0by Doreen Rapapport\u00c2\u00a0and AMAZINGLY illustrated by Bryan Collier. This is a great book that captures the essence of\u00c2\u00a0the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This book has received many awards, including Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Honor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/martinswords.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96\" title=\"martinswords\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/martinswords.jpg?w=268\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/martinswords.jpg 430w, http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/martinswords-268x300.jpg 268w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 268px) 100vw, 268px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After reading and discussing the story, we made a collage\u00c2\u00a0of words that come to mind when thinking of MLK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-97\" title=\"photo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/photo.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/photo.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.mightylittlelibrarian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/photo-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It wraps all the way around my desk, and I really love it!
